August 2026 Mission Team 1

The first of two Mission Teams in August was charged with the task of painting a small pre-school in preparation for the new school year. Members of the small team eagerly accepted the challenge: they scraped, cleaned, and painted the interior walls while a local concrete crew made repairs to the exterior walls.
The school is located at and connected to Pastor Esthela’s church in Batey 2, where that community’s Food Distributions are conducted. After paying teachers’ salaries and buying materials, the church has little money to maintain the building.
One of the team members came from Pennsylvania and the second came from Georgia. They were joined by Executive Director, Marty Hogan. A few local helpers assisted with the project. One of those helpers, perhaps remembered by past team members, Vlady, used his creative gifts to paint a mural in one of the rooms and a new sign on an outside wall.
The late summer heat was intense, so the work crew was grateful for a couple of fans inside the school—and a generator for when the electricity went out.
Pastor Esthela’s face lit up with joy as she watched the progress. She expressed that she was looking forward to hosting the teachers for their kick-off meeting, as she knew they would be excited at how the school’s appearance had been improved.
Team members participated in Food Distributions in other communities throughout the week and joined in a Bible School activity in Batey Algodón.
Exterior painting was completed by the second Mission Team the following week.
