San Rafael is the batey we serve that is located the farthest from Barahona. It also is one of the poorest. It sits in a ‘U’ shape around an open field. It is very deserty. Few trees and a low water table. The water pulled up from their well is salty and very little pressure.

We are happy to see the government is supplying water to the community for bathing and washing. And residents buy drinking water from a provider.
We visit San Rafael every two weeks to distribute food and pray.

During the January team a group of us walked around and was asked to pray for a family member who was undergoing a particularly difficult time. We prayed so hard that God would intervene in her situation.
About a month later I went back to the batey and the woman we prayed for was in the church getting food and speaking. I couldn’t understand her words but she was participating and she kept thanking us. She threw papers into our truck that she said were golden words. They were pages of the Bible.
I love being here for a longer time and having the opportunity to see and get to know the rest of the story or at least another chapter.
Blessings,
Jacki
