We had a wonderful celebration of my Mom’s life. I cried all the way through it. But each word expounded on her generosity, hospitality, beauty, and grace from all milestones of her 88 years. We are still navigating uncharted waters but she taught us well. Dad continues to miss her tremendously.
Malcolm and I came back to DR October 19. Dad insisted. I call him everyday. We participated in a very wet October team prepping the Ministry Hub and distributing food every day. Hurricane Melissa missed us but Barahona was left with 12 days of rain, some torrential. Malcolm stayed an extra few days. Again all wet, 0 beach days.
But we cannot control the weather.
We have had a lot of time to talk; Marty, Ricardo, Malcolm and I, and after much prayer, I have decided to go home for the holidays. I will be leaving November 13 and returning January 3 for the team. November 13 will be the last day in my apartment. It has been a very safe place to live. I will always be thankful to Ricardo and Anny for all the love and helping me to set up in this beautiful country. I learned so much about the culture and about myself. I have been blessed beyond measure. I will have a few more blogs before I end my Missionary year in January.
Over the last couple of weeks I handed out wooden crosses to many people. My mom ordered these for me in July. I was able to visit each of the Bateys before I go back.
At the bottom of this I put some pictures. It has been the best of times and the worst of times this last year.
Please continue to pray for our family. Grief comes over in waves. I am writing this on All Saints Day and my Mom’s name is going to be read at many church services. I never would have thought this but she does join the Saints that have gone before.
Please visit our website to sign up for the January team or to support our Ministry.
Love and Hope,
Jacki
